Butterfield Canyon is a six-mile long canyon in the Oquirrh Mountain Range located in the southwest corner of Salt Lake County. Various public and private entities own land in the canyon including Rio Tinto, the BLM, Salt Lake County, and other private parties. While Salt Lake County maintains the road in the Canyon along with the trail system accessed from just before the mouth of the canyon, there is currently no permitted access within the canyon itself other than travelling along the road.
This survey is being conducted to gather information on what types of uses may already be occurring in Butterfield Canyon, what types of uses the public might prefer to see developed, and public opinions on possible methods to manage and maintain the canyon. The results of this survey will be used to guide the advocacy efforts of The Oquirrh Foundation.
The activities, questions, and proposals contained in this survey do not represent the position or plans of Salt Lake County, Rio Tinto, or any other party.
